Lloyd Phillips was born in 1943 in Brisbane, Australia. He graduated from the Kelvin Grove Teachers’ College, attended the University of Queensland, and graduated in Graphic Arts and Theatre from the University of British Columbia.

While at U.B.C. he was introduced by Alister Bell to woodblock printing. He has mostly done single woodblock prints with some prints coloured with water-soluble ink. The images are land and tree scapes, cut with a knife. The images cannot be created other than by the use of a knife.
